1 Bay Oak Garages

A 1 bay oak garage is the ideal solution if you need secure parking for a single vehicle without taking up excessive space. Compact and affordable, each frame is built from structural oak and crafted using traditional joinery. Choose from gable or barn-end roof profiles, with options to add log stores, side aisles, or enclosed bays for extra storage.

Why Choose a 1 Bay Oak Garage?

A 1 bay oak garage offers practical covered parking for a single vehicle while keeping the footprint compact, making it ideal for smaller driveways or tighter plots. It’s the most affordable entry point into our oak garage range, yet every frame is crafted from structural oak with traditional mortise and tenon joints for lasting strength. If not used for parking, it doubles as secure storage for tools, bikes, or logs. With ridge heights under 4m, most designs are suitable for planning-sensitive sites.

Design Variants & Add-ons

Our 1 bay oak garages come in a choice of roof profiles, including gable, barn-hip, hip, and gablet, so you can match the style of your property. Each design can be expanded with practical add-ons such as log stores, side aisles, half bays, or internal partitions. Joinery options like side doors and garage doors are also available.

You can adjust the footprint to suit your site, upgrade cladding from our timber range, or select from various roofing materials. For unique requirements, we also offer a full bespoke design service.

What’s Included in Your Kit

Each 1 bay oak garage kit includes a full structural oak frame with curved braces, oak pegs, pre-cut rafters, softwood studwork, treated featheredge cladding, granite staddle stones, and all necessary fixings.

Every joint is numbered and the frame is dry-fitted in our workshop to ensure straightforward assembly on site.

Roofing options include oak or cedar shingles, tiles, or slates, with optional joinery such as windows, garage doors, and side doors available.

Build & Delivery

Lead times for 1 bay oak garages are typically 6–8 weeks. Delivery is available across mainland England and Wales, arranged either by our own vehicles or trusted couriers, with charges calculated by size, weight, and address. Each frame arrives ready for straightforward assembly, whether you choose to self-build or use a local contractor.

If needed, our team can recommend experienced installers to complete the build.

Planning & Building Regulations

Many 1 bay oak garages fall under permitted development, as all ridge heights are below 4m and the footprint is small. This often means planning permission is not required, but exemptions apply in certain cases, such as properties in conservation areas, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or sites close to a boundary.

Building regulations usually apply if the footprint exceeds 30m², or if the garage is within 1m of a boundary and over 15m². We can provide planning drawings to support applications where needed, but we recommend always checking with your local council before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add storage to a single bay garage?

Yes. Popular additions include log stores, side aisles, and half bays, giving you extra space for bikes, tools, or firewood. These options can be built into our standard designs or added as bespoke modifications.

Can you make bespoke single bay garages?

Yes. In addition to our 11 standard designs, we offer a full bespoke service. Whether you want to adjust dimensions, change the roof style, or add specific features, our team can adjust a design to your needs.

Do I need planning permission for a 1 bay oak garage?

Often not. With ridge heights under 4m and small footprints, many 1 bay garages fall under permitted development. Exemptions apply in conservation areas, AONBs, or near boundaries, so always confirm with your local authority.

How much does a 1 bay oak garage cost?

Prices depend on design and chosen features. Options like log stores, side aisles, or joinery upgrades will also affect the final cost. All garages are built to order, with bespoke pricing.

What is the typical size of a 1 bay garage?

Sizes vary, but footprints typically range from 2.8m x 5.3m to over 5.4m x 5.6m. All ridge heights are below 4m to simplify planning, and the designs comfortably fit one vehicle with space for storage.

Can I self-build, or do you offer fitting?

Our kits are designed for straightforward assembly and include pre-cut rafters, numbered joints, and full instructions. Many customers self-build or use local contractors. We can also recommend trusted installers if you prefer a fitted service.
